About Us

Stumpbusters operate in the tree work, landscaping and construction industries. We are professional contractors, only removing tree stumps by way of specialist machinery. We are the only national operation of this type so we dominate our market and enjoy an excellent reputation across the range of industries in which we work.

Stumpbusters was founded in 1994 and has gone from strength to strength, achieving national dominance as the franchise has grown. We currently have 33 franchisees, some of which have been in the network for almost 20 years. We value long-term success. Managing director Darren Taylor (pictured right) started life as a franchisee, expanding to four territories before taking over the franchise himself. This gives him an excellent perspective on what it’s like to be a Stumpbusters franchisee and ensures the network benefits from very good service and support.

Franchisees are mainly van-based, driving between jobs to remove stumps from a variety of locations. As with any business, there are also some aspects of sales and marketing required; building good relationships with your regular contractors is essential. As your business grows you’ll need to spend less time in the office.

Initial training takes around a week and is carried out on a one-to-one basis. It is flexible and heavily tailored towards individual needs. One of the most significant aspects of our training is on Google Adwords campaigns to help win new business, carried out with our expert webmaster. Training also includes the mechanical aspects of maintaining the machinery, and two days of practical training with MD Darren Taylor, who also owns and operates franchise territories himself: there’s nobody better to learn from!
