How we compile the FMF Top 100

Independent, and never pay-to-play. A brand's position is earned, never bought. Advertising with us has no influence whatsoever on a brand's rank, or on whether it appears at all.

Every qualifying franchise is scored from 0–100 across four weighted pillars:

• Independent industry recognition — 40%. The HSBC Elite Franchise Top 100 (decided by an independent panel of 25+ experts), Franchise Direct’s data-driven UK Top 100, and the judged bfa HSBC UK British Franchise Awards (Franchisor of the Year and category winners). Recognised across them, and ranked highly, scores strongest.
• Ethical accreditation (bfa) — 15%. British Franchise Association membership and tier — the clearest trust marker in a self-regulated industry.
• Track record — 20%. How long the brand has been established and franchising. A proven system outweighs an unproven one.
• Franchisee proposition — 25%. The strength of the offer to a franchisee — training, funding support and transparent investment information, plus verified franchisee satisfaction (a 5-Star rating in WorkBuzz’s independent Best Franchise Awards, scored from confidential surveys of the brand’s own franchisees). We reward a supportive, well-rated offer — not the cheapest.

We also reward completeness (brands we hold full data on rank ahead of those known only by reputation) and we don’t rank on hype (signals too new to be reliable, like live visitor demand, are left out until proven). “Best” is personal, so a flat Top 100 is a starting point — every entry links to full details and a free, no-obligation enquiry.
